About the Pre-Apprenticeship Program

The EnergyAustralia Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Pre-apprenticeship Program offers you the opportunity to participate in a fully funded, nationally recognised pre-apprenticeship program run by TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute.

By undertaking this course you’ll develop the skills and knowledge to identify and use a range of components, accessories, materials, tools, and equipment used to carry out work in the energy industry. You’ll also gain an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.

This is a full-time course and runs for ten weeks.

Jerry Mallie - Lineworker and Safety TrainerJerry Mallie - Lineworker and Safety Trainer

“The best thing about working in this industry is that you are looking after the people in the community, making sure the power stays on. It’s a great job working with a team of mates that really look after each other, which is important when you’re dealing with live electricity.

I have been a Lineworker and I have recently taken on a role as a Safety Trainer. Every day is different and there are plenty of opportunities…it’s there if you take the step”.

Joshua Toomey – Apprentice

This is a career it’s not just a job!

"The pre-apprenticeship program opened a great opportunity for me and now it is up to me to make something of it. I was stoked when I got into the program- I really benefited because I had pretty low confidence. I expected the program to be hard and it was, but I learnt so much and there was so much support throughout the course.

I’m starting a family and want to be able to provide for them so an apprenticeship with EnergyAustralia has put me on the right track - This is a career it’s not just a job. Some people have been here for more than 30 years and still love it.”

Robert Thomas – Apprentice

EnergyAustralia – You beauty!

"The best part of the pre-apprenticeship program was the support from TAFE and EnergyAustralia. It was a sacrifice to attend the ten week course – but well worth it!
The program was exciting and a great learning experience. Now I’m part of the EnergyAustralia family and I’m eager to go to work each morning.
I would definitely recommend EnergyAustralia to others – there’s an endless supply of support and the uniforms are great – they make people smile. "
