Contractor accreditation

Accreditation to undertake contestable work in NSW is administered by the NSW Office of Fair Trading.

Accreditation Levels

Individual electrical contractors or electrical contracting/consulting companies can become accredited Service Providers and perform contestable work. (Individuals must also obtain authorisation from EnergyAustralia for work on or near its existing distribution network assets.)

There are 3 levels of accreditation which can be gained from the NSW Office of Fair Trading.

Level 1: Contestable distribution work.
Installing high voltage and low voltage distribution cables and substations.

Level 2: Contestable service work.
Installing overhead and underground service lines and metering equipment, the disconnection and reconnection of supply to carry out work on an installation and energising installations with a total electricity load not greater than 100 Amps.

Level 3: Contestable design.
Designing electrical reticulation systems and does not require specific EnergyAustralia authorisation.

You can obtain more information on becoming accredited from the NSW Office of Fair Trading.
