General information

This page contains news and information for Accredited Service Providers and Electrical Contractors (Installation Work). We remind you of the need to complete a Notice of Service Work (NOSW) form.

Certificate of Compliance - Electrical Work (CCEW)
We remind electrical contractors that they must correctly complete a CCEW form for all new electrical installation work, or work resulting in an increase in electrical rating and send it to EnergyAustralia. You must also give your customers a copy of this form. CCEW forms are available from the National Electrical and Communications Association.

Notification of service work
Accredited service providers must submit an EnergyAustralia Application For Connection Form (ES1- Form A) to inform us about proposed contestable service work (Level 2 Accreditation) before they start.

A Supplementary Application For Connection Form (ES1 - Form B) must also be completed if part of the proposed contestable service work includes the installation of one of the following types:

  •  New electrical work over 20kW;
  • Multiple living unit developments (more than 6 units);
  • For services greater than 100 Amps;
  • CT metered installations - NOTE: the installation WILL NOT be energised unless all the information required in Part C has been provided;
  • Rural or outlying areas;
  • HV installations requiring more than 100kW or additional load; and
  • Work where the proposed equipment may cause excessive fluctuation of voltage (eg. welders, x-ray machines)

When the contestable service work has been completed, service providers must mail or fax a completed Notification of Service Work (NOSW) form to their local Customer Service Office.

Standards

EnergyAustralia reminds accredited service providers and contractors that standards for electrical installation work and contestable work are amended and updated regularly. These documents can be accessed through the guidelines and standards section of our website.

Electronic tariff metering

From 1 January 2002 EnergyAustralia commenced the supply of new standard electronic metering instruments for new small retail customer installations. "Small retail customer installation" used here refers to a retail contestable customers with an energy consumption of less than 160 MWh/year. The new standard electronic metering complies with the requirements for Type 5 metering as outlined in the National Electricity Code. The meters are 100 Ampere, bottom-connected, load profiling, whole current meters and come in three different types (and nomenclatures) as follows:
  • (E1) single phase, single element
  • (E2) single phase, dual element, with programmable (by EnergyAustralia) off-peak load control facility (ripple frequency relay or time switch)
  • (E3) three phase, single element. (Note: this 3 phase meter must only be used to meter a single tariff).

Further details of these meters and the associated installation requirements are contained in Electrical Supply Standards ES3- Metering Installations.

Working near gas pipes

There are safety risks in using heat sources near to gas pipes. There is a danger of igniting leaking gases. EnergyAustralia strongly recommends that contractors who work near gas pipes, undertake appropriate training to ensure they can work safely. Please read EnergyAustralia document CIA 1147 - Hazards of Underground Jointing Near Gas Pipes for further information.
