EnergyAustralia has a large network of underground cables. For safety reasons, it is extremely important that you check the location of these and other utility cables (including gas, water and sewerage) BEFORE you start to dig or excavate.

Dial Before You Dig is a community service organisation supported by EnergyAustralia and other major service providers. It can provide plans of where electricity, water, gas and telecommunications cables and pipes are located so you know whether it is safe to dig.

EnergyAustralia has developed a Network Standard NS 156 "Working near or around Underground Cables" which is available here on our network documentation database. And you must comply with the requirements in this Standard if you are excavating near our electricity mains.

A confirmation slip detailing your inquiry with Dial Before You Dig is issued soon after the inquiry is lodged. It should arrive or be ready for collection from the relevant utility within three working days.

Please read the slip and check the details. If you are unsure of, or if you have experienced a delay in receiving your plans, please call us on 13 15 25 before starting any digging or excavation work.
